THE LAKE HOUSE ESTATE

Lake House Estate is a one-of-a-kind hospitality and event property located along the shores of Lake Erie in Southwestern Ontario. Spanning a collection of distinctive accommodations, gathering spaces and private grounds, the Estate was created for everything from weekend escapes and family gatherings to retreats, celebrations and weddings.

What makes Lake House Estate remarkable is also what makes it challenging to market. This isn't a traditional hotel, cottage rental or event venue. It is an entire property made up of individual spaces, each with its own architecture, personality and experience, alongside larger shared spaces designed to bring people together.

The opportunity was to take everything that makes the Estate unusual and create clarity around it.

That meant developing more than a website. It meant creating the positioning, content, digital experience and marketing infrastructure needed to help people understand the property, explore its possibilities and imagine what their own stay or event could look like here.

The starting point

When we began working together, the property was operating as Lake House Suites, with existing branding and a growing collection of unique accommodations. But as the property continued to expand and evolve, the business had begun to outgrow both its name and its original identity.

What had started primarily as a collection of places to stay was becoming something much bigger. The property offered an increasingly diverse mix of accommodations, gathering spaces and experiences, with opportunities for weddings, retreats, private events and larger group stays. The name Lake House Suites no longer fully captured the scale of the property or where the business was headed.

At the same time, much of the existing marketing collateral was being created in-house as new needs arose. While functional, the materials lacked a consistent visual system and didn't reflect the quality, character or uniqueness of the property itself. There was an opportunity to create greater consistency across the brand while also making it easier for potential guests to understand everything the property had to offer.

Rather than simply updating the existing materials, we started by taking a step back and looking at the business as a whole: how it should be positioned, what the brand needed to communicate and how it could better support the long-term vision for the property.

the goal

The goal was to create a brand and marketing foundation that could grow alongside the property while more accurately representing the experience Lake House Estate had become.

This began with repositioning the business itself, evolving Lake House Suites into Lake House Estate and developing a more refined identity that retained some familiarity with the original brand while giving it the flexibility to represent much more than accommodations.

From there, the focus was on creating a cohesive experience across every touchpoint. The website needed to make a complex property easy to explore and understand. Photography and video needed to capture not only the individual spaces, but the scale and personality of the Estate. Social media needed to build awareness and help potential guests envision what a stay, wedding or event could look like. And every piece of collateral needed to feel like it belonged to the same brand.

Ultimately, the goal was to bring greater clarity, consistency and intention to the way Lake House Estate presented itself, positioning it not simply as a collection of accommodations, but as a distinctive destination for staying, gathering and celebrating.

The Branding

When we began looking at the brand, the bigger question wasn't simply how Lake House Suites should look, but how the property needed to be positioned to support where the business wanted to go. The ambition was to establish it as a premier destination for weddings, events and private gatherings, capable of attracting guests from well beyond Chatham-Kent, including markets such as Toronto and Detroit.

The existing name was one of the first things we reconsidered. “Lake House Suites” suggested a more traditional hospitality model centred around individual accommodations, when the experience was really about having access to a sprawling private lakeside property. Repositioning the business as Lake House Estate gave the brand room to communicate the scale, exclusivity and sense of place that made the property distinctive.

From there, we established a creative direction rooted in heritage, character, privacy, understated luxury and old-world romance. Rather than following the visual conventions of traditional wedding venues, the goal was to create something that felt established and sophisticated, with an “old money” sensibility that complemented the architecture and history of the Estate.

The property itself became an important source of inspiration. The brand palette pulls directly from colours found throughout the Estate: deep greens from the surrounding landscape, the warm golden tone of the Manor House, earthy clay and red tones found throughout the architecture and interiors, and soft ivory and linen neutrals. Typography and photography direction were developed with the same philosophy, creating a visual language that feels editorial, slightly nostalgic and inherently connected to the property.

We also intentionally evolved elements of the original identity rather than abandoning them completely, retaining recognizable details such as the monogram and key motif while refining the typography and overall presentation. A complete suite of logos and clear brand standards were then developed to create consistency across digital, social, signage, print collateral and guest-facing materials.

The result is a brand that feels much more reflective of the experience itself: distinctive, established and elevated, with a cohesive identity designed to help Lake House Estate compete as a destination well beyond its local market.

The Website

With the new brand established, the website became one of the most important tools for bringing the Lake House Estate experience to life and repositioning the property for a broader audience. The challenge was to communicate a property with a lot to offer—multiple accommodations, gathering spaces, weddings, events and private stays—without making the experience feel complicated or overwhelming.

We reimagined the website around the Estate as a destination, creating a more intentional structure that allows visitors to experience the property as a whole while still easily exploring individual accommodations and the different ways they can stay, gather and celebrate.

The visual direction was designed as an extension of the new brand: sophisticated, spacious and editorial, with warm neutrals, refined typography and large-scale photography allowing the architecture and landscape to take centre stage. This lighter approach was intentionally balanced against the richer, more atmospheric elements of the brand, creating a digital experience that feels elevated while remaining inviting and easy to navigate. This approach also reflects the original brand recommendation that the website use a lighter, more spacious palette so the photography, typography and architectural details could stand out.

Beyond the design, I developed the website content and messaging to better communicate what makes Lake House Estate distinctive, while creating clear pathways for its different audiences. Individual accommodations could be explored in greater detail, while weddings and events were given the space and prominence needed to support the Estate's growth as a destination venue.

Most importantly, the website was designed to shift the perception of Lake House Estate from a local accommodation property to a compelling destination worth travelling for—creating a digital presence that could introduce the Estate to prospective guests and event clients from Chatham-Kent to Toronto, Detroit and beyond.

Photography & Creative Direction

Photography played a critical role in bringing the new Lake House Estate brand to life. With a property this visually distinctive, the goal was never simply to capture beautiful images. We needed to develop a cohesive visual library that could communicate the atmosphere of the Estate, support its positioning as a destination wedding and event venue, and give potential guests a sense of what it might actually feel like to experience the property.

I creative directed a series of shoots with different objectives in mind. For the lifestyle shoot, we created an elevated, editorial approach inspired by the brand's sense of old-world romance and understated luxury. From wardrobe and styling to locations, compositions and details, the shoot was designed to feel aspirational while still belonging naturally within the Estate.

The lifestyle photography was captured by Jennifer Galea and featured gowns by Anaïs Anette, jewellery by Sonya Roe, and hair and makeup by Amanda Morais. Together, these elements helped us create imagery that spoke directly to the wedding market while establishing a distinctive visual world around the Lake House Estate brand.

Alongside the lifestyle imagery, Meg Gray photographed the rooms, architecture and property itself. These images were approached with the same overall visual direction, capturing not only the individual spaces and their details, but the character, scale and sense of place that make the Estate unique.

Each shoot was planned with its eventual use in mind, creating a versatile collection of imagery for the website, social media, print collateral and ongoing event marketing. The result is a photography library that feels consistent with the brand while balancing the practical need to showcase the property with the more emotional storytelling needed to sell Lake House Estate as an experience.

Final Thoughts

Lake House Estate is a great example of what can happen when we take a step back from individual marketing pieces and look at the bigger picture.

What began as an opportunity to elevate the marketing for an already remarkable property became a much broader transformation—from reconsidering the name and positioning to developing a sophisticated new brand, rebuilding the website, establishing a distinct photography direction and creating a more cohesive presence across every touchpoint.

Throughout the project, the property itself remained our greatest source of inspiration. The architecture, landscape, history, interiors and unexpected details gave us so much to work with; the challenge was creating a brand that could bring all of those elements together without losing what made the Estate so unique in the first place.

The result is a brand that feels distinctly Lake House Estate: refined but full of character, romantic without feeling expected, and designed to support the property's evolution into a destination that draws people from well beyond Chatham-Kent.

And perhaps most importantly, we created a foundation that can continue to grow alongside the Estate—giving the team the strategy, standards, imagery and tools to tell a consistent story as the property enters its next chapter.
